The Project was also a finalist in the Best Commercial Building category with the announcement made at St. Andrews Hall, Norwich on Friday 26th June 2015.

The ageing Moy’s End Terrace was replaced by a combined facility consisting of a new 2,500 seat capacity stand and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Centre within the footprint of the new stand.

“Inclusive access was a core consideration and the careful design ensures people can move without difficulty between the highway, external public zones and through the building. Internally the attention to total accessibility integration includes abundant disabled facilities and unobstructed level access to all areas.” Daniel Pedley, Project Architect

In addition to the numerous disabled supporter spaces there is an elevated disabled viewing platform on first floor concourse level, set within the standard spectator seating. Wheelchair users travel to the first floor via a separate lift where they access a modified viewing area with space for both wheelchairs and helpers.

Sustainability has been addressed throughout the concept, design and construction phases of the project. The design embraces energy efficient measures and passive strategies to minimise the need for supplementary heating, cooling and lighting. To help exceed statutory energy efficiency requirements the main roof has been used to house a large PV array providing supplementary electricity. Furthermore the roof integrates a rainwater harvesting system, used to flush toilets and irrigate the pitch.

The paying public watched their first match on Saturday 22nd November, followed by three subsequent fixtures in December. All fixtures have run smoothly and the Safety Advisory Group is delighted with the new stand, commenting on how quickly the public can egress at final whistle. This is testimony to the design stage decision to enlarge the concourse. The STEM centre has recently undergone a change of use review and is now proposed as a combined Innovation and Conference facility, due to go live March 2015.
