UEA CROME COURT WINS LEGACY AWARD FOR SUSTAINABILITY

LSI Architects were pleased to be awarded with the Legacy Award for Sustainability by Norfolk Constructing Excellence Club last week, for our exciting UEA residences project. The project was also runner up in the Overall Project of the Year Award.
The award was presented to Partner Trevor Price, who said “We are delighted to have received this award for sustainability for the UEA student residences, which we believe is a beacon for mainstream sustainability, as outstanding standards of sustainability are being achieved within a realistic budget and to a very fast programme. The award is recognition of our ongoing commitment to sustainable design.”

The UEA campus is well established and the new residences will provide a distinctive and attractive addition to the campus living-experience for students. The building incorporates a flexible social space, and was urgently required to support a measure of growth in student numbers at UEA, to maintain the University’s identity as a campus university.

The building has achieved its target of BREEAM Excellent and boasts some impressive statistics. 69% of the calculated energy use will be provided by renewables, and has a CO2 production only 5% of that of a notionally compliant design (or 95% less CO2 emissions than the same building under regulation standards). The thermal insulation is greater than current building regulations, and incorporates grey water recycling for WC flushing and photovoltaic panels for converting solar energy into electricity.

The awards ceremony, on Wednesday the 8th April was an opportunity for LSI to share an evening alongside peers from the construction industry in Norfolk, including representatives from RG Carters, Kier and Norfolk County Council.
The standard of the work shared on the evening was extremely high, and it was encouraging that the presentations highlighted some of the exciting projects, programmes and initiatives that have taken place in Norfolk over the last 12 months.
