THINGS REALLY STARTING TO HAPPEN AT ARTHUR RANK HOSPICE SITE, CEO LYNN MORGAN
CEO of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity Lynn Morgan recently featured in Cambridge News talking about progress of the new Hospice at its new Shelford Bottom site. Here’s what Lynn said.
Anyone who has passed the location of our new hospice at Shelford Bottom, will have seen that there is now a lot of activity on the site.
After much anticipation, things are beginning to happen. I am thrilled about this, but I am also aware that planning the facilities and the specification for a new hospice is a tremendous responsibility.
We need to get it right for so many people. Our aim is to recreate a modern, yet homely, environment in which people will feel a sense of peace.
To this end Louise Knights, from LSI Architects, has worked tirelessly with us to achieve a light and airy contemporary feel.
We are driven in our aim to recreate the very special ethos of personal care and the sense of time to care, which our doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and volunteers do so well at our existing hospice in our new facility.
We have given much thought to all the ways that the facilities will be used and how we can enhance the patient and family experience without creating more work for the staff.
We have tried to think of everything and there has been considerable consultation with staff, volunteers, patients and their families to make sure we incorporate not just the big things but the little things that will add the special touches.
For example, can patients see their cards and flowers from their bed, will they have a pleasant view of the courtyard garden from within their room and will their family be able to comfortably remain close by overnight.
We have tried to incorporate as many features as possible so that we can make a real difference, whilst still trying to stay within budget – not always an easy feat.
One of the exciting features of the new hospice will be a spa bathroom – the bath, believe it or not, not only has gentle water jets, but will also allow the patients to select the colour of the lighting in the room, the music of their choice and aromatherapy fragrances to suit their mood.
Of course we are also aware of what our many supporters want and we know that above all else our donors want to see their money used wisely and we believe that we have been very carefully considered the value of every aspect of the new build and how it can be achieved at the best price, without compromising quality and comfort.
If you would like to make a donation, please use the coupon displayed, every donation allows us to move one step closer to our goal and together we can raise the £10.3 million required for this exciting project.
