LSI PARTNERS WITH OPEN ACADEMY

Over the last few months LSI Architects has been working with Open Academy, in partnership with Mills & Reeve and Alan Boswell Group, as part of the Business in the Community Business Class initiative.

Business Class is a government-endorsed programme, which provides a systematic framework for business to support young people facing social disadvantage by forming long-term partnerships with the schools those young people attend.

In February, LSI took part in an assembly for students from year 8 up to 6^th form to share with students what it’s like to work for an Architectural Practice. Architects Rachel Harmer, Daniel Pedley, Kirstin Aitken and Chris Lappin and Technologists Danny Owen and Jess Willan all spoke to students about their career paths and experience. The feedback from the students suggests that this was an eye-opening and inspiring event for them in terms of providing ideas of what to do in the future.

Human Resources Manager Katrina Parsons also took part in a ‘Personal Impact Training’ event to give year 11 students valuable advice on writing CV’s, applying for jobs and with their interview skills.

“The impact of all this is to bring the worlds of work and education closer together. Open Academy students benefit from being more aware of the opportunities available to them. It also helps to improve their focus and gives them a well-founded confidence that they can reach their goals.” Jon Platten, Principal at Open Academy.
