A competition design which anticipates that, during flooding, the houses become the flood defence line, and the floor plan reverses: robust wall detailing withstands rising water, and an outward-opening front door presses against the frame, creating a seal, while the first floor garden decks become the alternative focus for residents.

We have attempted to provide a solution that is low technology, achievable by skills available within today’s construction industry, using materials and products that are readily available.

In broad terms, we envisage a housing scheme set within landscaped grounds that provide communal green space and also provides surface water attenuation via swales and SUDS.
