Harris Academy Riverside is a new 1,150 place school, including a 6FE secondary school with a 250 place 6th form, located on a restrained site in Purfleet, Essex.
The new £23M academy for the Harris federation, considered as part of a larger regeneration plan for Purfleet Town Centre, was funded by the ESFA with input from Thurrock Council. LSI Architects were appointed as Lead Consultant for the duration of the JCT D&B project and were responsible for generating the concept as well as preparation of Employers Requirements, discharge of planning conditions from initial stages through to construction and completion.
The accommodation is split into two blocks; a four storey teaching block, and a two storey sports block. The arrangement of the blocks create a welcoming and direct entrance through the centre of the site and increases the views from site entry to the playground and beyond. Influence has been taken from the Harris Academy uniform, by using the strong branding colour to articulate particular aspects of the facade.
Tried and tested materials provide long term robust solutions and combine to create a successful educational environment. The completed school is recognised as a flagship for Harris Academies.
