Construction of the new ATAM Academy Sikh Faith School in the London Borough of Redbridge

ATAM Academy is a Sikh faith school in the London Borough of Redbridge and part of the Khalsa Academies Trust. The school is an all through school and accommodates 1260 students and 110 members of staff at a maximum capacity. The Junior School accommodates 420 students and the senior school accommodates 840 students, including those students attending Sixth Form. Additionally the school now has a 52 place nursery.

The building also provides an improved sports pitch, all weather courts and a Sports England compliant internal sports hall which is available for community use.

LSI successfully undertook a full client engagement process with excellent feedback received from the ESFA and end users. The team also presented the scheme at public exhibition and drop in sessions. As well as ensuring team information was co-ordinated and providing greater cost certainty, our use of an interactive 3D model was greatly benefitial in initiating discussion and interrogation of aspects such as light, views, and circulation, especially in and around the communal heart.

The alignment of the design with the Sikh Faith School ethos was carefully balanced within the constraints of an ESFA budget to create a striking design that is generated on the principle of continual learning and community centred at the heart of the school.
