Local businessman Clive Hay-Smith proposed a supermarket with sustainable credentials selling locally sourced, organic produce.

LSI’s design for the supermarket harnesses wind and solar power for the building, with an environmentally friendly sedum moss roof and a natural grass and swale area for local wildlife to inhabit. Throughout the design, construction and running of the proposed store, everything practicable will be done to maximise ecological advantage.

An innovative feature of the design is the provision of CHP plant to produce 60% of the store’s energy for an adjacent swimming pool. Potentially this initiative could reduce the carbon footprint of the store by 34 tonnes per year.
