Gresham's School Oakeley Boarding House

The project aims to provide a new boarding house to replace the existing facilities on the site, which have been deemed to be in an unsatisfactory state. Oakeley House’s central portion with it’s multiple gables, roof slopes and chimneys is over 100 years old and has over time fallen in to a state of disrepair. The project aims to combat this issue by refurbishing facilities that are set to remain, and also to expand and improve in order to create new and innovative spaces for its occupants.

The design ensures that the needs of the user are met while achieving an aesthetic in keeping with the existing school buildings and that reflects the character and history of the original Oakeley buildings. A ‘fabric first’ approach has been adopted in the design to enhance the building’s performance.
