The building fit-out was conceived as a learning resource in itself, with recycled wall cladding and flooring. Externally a biosphere can recreate artificial study environments, networked to the classroom by ICT and supported by sustainable demonstration tools such as solar panels, a wind turbine and rain water recycling.
Subdivisible into 3 zones, linked to AV equipment for remote learning, including an overhead services boom, and incorporating renewable technologies the project secured many plaudits.
At the outset, members of the LSI team got the opportunity to brush up on their GCSE Science by attending a morning of science lessons. This was to ensure that we had a thorough understanding of the teaching and learning experience, which informed the design of large scale graphics of the periodic table and the world at night.
