LSI worked on the design and delivery of new DEFRA inspection facilities at Harwich International Port, a Border Control Post (BCP) for produce and plants.

BCP’s are a part of a Government Strategy to provide the required buildings for border control purposes at strategic locations across the United Kingdom, a key component in the Government’s response to the increased need for inspection of goods coming into the country post Brexit.

The building layout was developed to accommodate the various requirements for the different uses of the buildings, but in this case primarily the unloading of goods and transporting to inspection areas for physical checks or technical sampling.

The design allows for maximum flexibility in the internal use of the space and for different arrangements of accommodation units and storage spaces. The superstructure creates clear spans, without columns and obstructions, inside the building to allow for circulation of equipment and movement of personnel and products.
