Lister Community School is a 9FE School for girls and boys from years 7-11, situated in Plaistow in the London Borough of Newham, with a specialism school in Music and Science. In order to accommodate two new forms of entry a new teaching block and dance hall was proposed alongside some internal modifications to the existing campus.

The new classroom block is a simple three storey building connected back to the existing school at first floor level, a recessed ground floor to St Mary’s Road creates a ‘cloister’ where pupils can walk along and access the building from the south west playground. Here, a sunken outdoor performance area and raised soft playground complement a new social area giving the pupils the possibility to explore new outdoor activities besides sports.

LSI Architects worked on this scheme from Stage 3, developing the design for volumetric off-site construction alongside the McAvoy Group.
