Architectural Modelling…with snow?

Usually our architecture modelling blogs sees us take a look at some of the best architectural models created by our in-house model maker James Parkinson. However, this time we’ve taken a new slant on the architectural model, experimenting with some temporarily available materials.

As ‘The Beast from the East’ and Storm Emma swept across the United Kingdom this week, much of the country has been covered in a blanket of snow.

And, the car park in our Norwich office was no exception.  A handful of people who’d managed to make it through the snow and ice and into the office on Wednesday decided to make the most of the snow and head outside at lunchtime to create a snow sculpture.

We all agreed that as a team of architects and technologists, we should really be more ambitious with our snow creation than the traditional snowman.

It didn’t take us long to find our inspiration. We only needed to take a quick look out of the window of our office on Cattle Market Street to see one of Norwich’s most iconic buildings, Norwich Castle.

Using a plastic storage box to build the bricks, and a number of rulers to add detail, we successfully completed our snow tribute to Norwich Castle – complete with Castle Mound and Bridge (with arch!) and a snow-architect to supervise proceedings.

We’ve been amazed by the response to our Snow Castle on social media, and equally as amazed to see our creation feature on the BBC and ITV websites.
