A £1.4M project to refurbish the entrance and reception areas at The Alexandra Hospital in Manchester to bring the Alex in line with our clients look and feel standards and improve the patient experience. The project provides an uplifting, modern entrance that draws people in and unlocks the existing environment to create a more welcoming and logical entrance to their flagship hospital. The internal phases provide a new reception, urgent care centre and management suite. A new canopy provides a grander entrance to the hospital, with landscaping works also undertaken to improve first impressions upon approach.
The extension to house the orthopaedic services uses a simple palette of materials which allows it to fit within the existing building whilst clearly being a new, modern element, echoing the language of the refurbished main entrance with its timber canopy. The project team successfully overcame the challenges of working in a live hospital environment, using a phased approach to keep the hospital operational throughout construction.
