Fairview Alternative Provision
A new 100-place alternative provision school for Essex County Council, replacing a small and outdated facility which was no longer fit for purpose.
Occupied by the Children’s Support Service (CCS), the new building provides state-of-the-art spaces enabling high quality, personalised education for Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils, who can no longer be taught in a mainstream educational setting.
The modern purpose-built facility offers a two-storey teaching block and main hall, and are connected by a single-storey dining area which opens out onto a flexible outdoor space.
Materials have been selected to reflect both the brick properties and rendered dwellings of the surrounding area, with contrasting cementitious cladding to stair cores and the main hall. Grey accent bricks and a canopy have been used to define the entrance along the west elevation, providing direction to those visiting site.
The end result is a teaching space that creates a positive environment to allow students to feel safe, be inspired, and flourish both academically and socially.
The project at Fairview School was named ‘Building Project of the Year’ at the Constructing Excellence East of England Awards in June 2024, as entered by Main Contractor Barnes Construction.
