Samuel Ward Academy is an 8 form of entry school located in Haverhill, Suffolk, and provides secondary education for 11-18 year old pupils.

This ESFA funded scheme incorporated the demolition of two existing blocks and provision of a new-build, modern school, with outstanding teaching facilities.

The proposed new block completes the ‘whole through school’ journey on the site by its location between the existing year 7 and 8 block and post 16 accommodation. The building form responds to the adjacent blocks to enhance their existing views and to form new connections across the site whilst retaining the external sports provision that is key to the Academy ethos.

The external facade of the building uses robust and durable materials to create a calm coherent façade. At ground floor level brick wraps around the entirety of the building to provide a robust base. The upper floors are then covered in an off white render to help reduce the buildings height impact against the sky.
