Songjiang Low Carbon Development
LSI Architects produced this scheme through a joint-venture between the University of East Anglia and a partner institution in China.
The project, representing a small component of a wider ranging masterplan, proposes a new retail scheme underpinning four new office towers.
The proposals successfully integrate mixed retail use (retail, food, tourism & leisure) with all four commercial office towers achieved in principle through a continuous linking ‘podium’ element. The design seizes the opportunity for office ‘sky gardens’ suspended above the retail levels, directly linking principal office floors to the vertical atria spaces, providing terraces which connect and animate the commercial and retail common areas.
The proposals set out to qualify the positive impact of low-carbon and sustainable design in this high-density, mixed-use complex and also present a commercially viable scheme.
